WHY DO WE NEED A CARRIER OIL FOR CBD?
Many believe that just by consuming or administering medication, it will automatically treat to the spot that needs healing. However, our bodies are much more complex than that. Bioavailability is a word that has created a lot of buzzes up in the wellness industry. Bioavailability (BA) is a term used in pharmacology, nutritional and environmental sciences, which refers to the degree and rate at which a substance is absorbed by the body’s circulatory system. One factor that will affect the rate of bioavailability is what it is consumed with. We know that some nutrients, when consumed together support each other’s bioavailability. For example, calcium is best absorbed when it’s consumed alongside magnesium. Consuming vitamin C with plant-based, iron-rich food enhances the bioavailability of iron.
So what does this have to do with your CBD tincture?
Some things simply need to be carried to get from point A to point B. In order for people or pets to reap the optimum benefits of CBD, it needs to be carried. What CBD is consumed with will affect how much and at what rate CBD absorbs in your body. CBD comes in two raw forms, both of which are less than the ideal for dose specific ingestion and systemic absorption. The first, CBD Isolate, is a crystallized material similar to salt. The raw material of isolate is not easily processed by the body if ingested without a carrier oil resulting in poor digestion. The second, full spectrum CBD, has a very thick and sticky consistency, making measuring a proper consistent serving size difficult, leading to inefficient and wasteful use of the product. CBD is fat soluble. This means that when CBD is combined with a fat such as MCT or Hemp Seed Oil, the CBD can dissolve and attach to the fat molecules (in the oil) which makes it much more available for your body to digest, absorb and use. Furthermore, Diluting CBD in a carrier oil makes it easier to measure the dosage and make sure that you get the maximum benefit from the product. There are different types of carrier oils producers like to use each with their own benefits and effectiveness. Below we will explain the types of carrier oils King Tuts uses in their CBD tinctures and how they may have an impact on your health. One type might be better for you than the other.
WHAT IS MCT OIL? AND WHY IS IT USED WITH CBD?
MCT oil is short for Medium Chain Triglyceride oil. Medium chain triglycerides (MCTs) are a specific fat molecule found in oils, such as coconut and palm oil. (KING TUTS uses fractionated MCT oil derived from coconuts #earthlove). MCTs work differently on the metabolism then other oils such as olive and avocado oil. Compared to larger fat molecules found in these other oils, MCTs can be broken down and metabolized by the body quickly and more efficiently due to their smaller size by going directly to the liver where they are easier to digest and absorb. Since we know that CBD is fat soluble, fractionated coconut oil (MCT) is a very effective carrier for CBD because it contains 90% saturated fat. Also, the small molecular size results in a low viscosity substance, making the oil thin and therefore ideal for dosing. Since the fractionated oil has no flavor or smell, it is favored by many be the best carrier oil for sublingual use. Apart from is supportive qualities to CBD, MCT oil has proven very effective for people who struggle with low energy, poor digestive health, obesity, hormonal fluctuations, slow metabolism, dementia, diabetes, and inflammatory conditions, as well as those who are at high risk for cardiovascular disease.
Benefits of MCT Oil:
Energy Booster:
With a strong metabolism, you also have healthy energy levels. Instead of more than 20 steps that sugar takes to become energy, C-8 medium-chain fatty acids can be converted to usable energy in only 3 steps, giving your body rapid support and invigorating energy.
Improves Gut Health/Digestion:
MCT oil has anti-inflammatory, antiviral and antibacterial qualities that can optimize digestion and balance the environment of your gut flora, helping to prevent symptoms of cramping, bloating and constipation, as well as any parasitic or viral infections.
Weight Management:
When you ingest more MCTs, your body becomes more efficient at mobilizing fat stores as energy. As a result, the body will begin breaking down its own fat to power ordinary, everyday functions. (Which means quicker weight loss!) However, it should be noted— To lose excess body weight healthfully and permanently, it takes patience and quality upgrades to your overall eating and exercise habits.
Hormones:
One of the most critical roles of fats in the body #nopunintended is their role in creating hormones. Adding MCTs in your diet will help make those hormones you need to keep your mood in place, your metabolism high, and prevent depression and hormonal upset.
Brain Function:
In healthy individuals, glucose supplies almost all of the brain’s energy. However, in certain patient populations (e.g. those with or developing Alzheimer’s disease, type II diabetics) the ability of the brain to use glucose is impaired. Ketones are an alternative energy source for the brain and might be able to compensate for this impairment.
Immune System:
The antimicrobial qualities of lauric acid and caprylic acid make MCT oil not only a worthy immune system supporter but aides in fighting various types of bacterial infections (e.g. Candida) In addition, MCTs may reduce the severity of autoimmune conditions and are believed that they may alter gut flora, mRNA expressions, and decrease inflammation.
Cardiovascular disease:
MCTs may have an effect on lowering cholesterol and therefore improving cardiovascular health in humans. Studies have shown that those who consume coconut oils (which contain 50% MCTs) tend to have lower incidences of heart attacks compared to those who don’t.
MCT Oil Precautions For First Time Users:
If you are new to using MCT oil, start with a small amount, and see how your body reacts. There are certain laxative qualities to this oil, so it’s best to start slow.
WHAT IS HEMP SEED OIL? AND WHY IS IT USED WITH CBD?
Hemp Seed Oil can be found in the aisles of grocery stores and is a popular ingredient in many nutritional and cosmetic products. Derived from the hemp plant, hemp seed oil is obtained by pressing hemp seeds. Not to be confused with ‘Hemp’, Hemp seed oil does not contain any CBD. It has a pleasant, almost nutty flavor and rich color. Hemp seed oil is well-known as a healthy oil because it contains high levels of Omega-3 and Omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids and is also abundant in other vitamins and minerals. In fact, it’s the only edible oil that contains greater than 80% polyunsaturated essential fatty acids. Another benefit of hemp seed oil is the high levels of vitamin E. On average, 100g of hemp seed oil contains 100–150mg of vitamin E. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant with anti-aging properties. King Tuts uses unrefined, cold-pressed hemp seed oil – this oil is green in color with a nutty flavor. Cold pressed hemp oil preserves hemp’s nutritious content, so it is often called “Nature’s most perfectly balanced oil”. It’s no surprise that everyone can’t stop raving about this natural nutrient. Consistent use of hemp seed oil is believed to assist in supporting overall health, here are a few ways it can:
Benefits of Hemp Seed Oil:
Hormonal Balance
Hemp is the only edible seed that contains gamma-linolenic acid, which is eventually converted to the protective hormone prostaglandin PGE1 that regulates the hormonal balance and supports menopausal health.
Skin Regeneration
Omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids have a composition similar to skin lipids, which makes it an excellent natural emollient and moisturizer. It is especially useful for dry, tired or dehydrated skin and nails by increasing the skins elasticity and water retention capacity in the tissue.
For Vegetarians
Not only is it a complete protein (meaning it contains all 9 essential amino acids) but it’s also an excellent source of omega-3 and 6 fatty acids. Getting the right balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids can be tricky for vegetarians and vegans. Hemp oil has the optimal ratio of these acids. What’s more, hemp seed oil contains stearidonic acid (SDA). SDA gets converted to the fatty acid EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), which you can only get by eating fish. So, if you’re not into eating salmon, this little powerhouse is a great plant-based alternative! Helps Lower Cholesterol.
Psoriasis
Psoriasis is caused by a deficiency of omega-6 fatty acids in the body. The fatty acids present in hemp oil help improve skin oxygenation and hydration.
Immune System Boost
Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids improve immunity and regulate intestinal flora. These essential fatty acids have been shown to promote healthy flora in the intestines, thus building a natural barrier against microbes and increasing the resilience of the body.
Prevention of Demyelination Of Nervous System
Essential fatty acids are necessary for a healthy cell membrane structure. They also help restrict the demyelination, the destruction of the myelin sheath. When the myelin sheath is damaged, nerve impulses slow or even stop, causing neurological problems.
Varicose Veins
Like other compounds high in omega-3s, hemp oil can thin your blood, reducing blood clots and varicose veins.
Hemp Oil Precautions For First Time Users
Though it has a number of health benefits, hemp oil should be avoided by prostate cancer patients or people who take blood thinners. (check with a doctor before use!)

To be honest all of my CBD experiences have been personally underwhelming in contrast to the benefit people describe from it. I believe something like this with a fuller spectrum of compounds might be more effective for someone like myself.
another great post. thanx for taking the time to keep people informed
I know for me personally afyer 20 some odd years of shoulder pain. Since useing cbd oils I have zero pain now it’s great
I’ve always much preferred mtc oil for what I use for, I hmfind it has higher bio availability, mix’s well into creams and drinks
Very nice blog post, super informative and in-depth. Never understood why all CBD oils contained hemp seed oil or MCT and was asked by my brother to help pick a proper oil out, now that I have read this post I know what to get and have confidence that I’m buying the proper product.
Very informative blog. I’ve used tinctures previously but don’t find it helped much. I gave to my father who used for pain in his leg and he said it helped.
I’ve only tried cbd isolate been reading this definitely going to have to try some in the future hoping it’s something like cbd isolate
Never tried tinctures before. But after reading this I’m definitely adding them to my next order. Thanks kt!
Never tried CBD, but I would love to get some, sometime for my mother.
This is very interesting. It’s amazing how many “gifts” this plant offers. And yet another “gift” I’m very interested in. Lol ?
