Description
What is D9 Distillate?
D9 distillate is a thick, translucent oil, typically amber, that contains nearly pure THC. It’s called “distillate” because it undergoes a process called distillation to remove impurities like plant matter, fats, and other cannabinoids, leaving behind concentrated THC. The result is a powerful product used for its strong effects.
How is D9 Distillate Made?
- Extraction: The process starts with raw cannabis plant material. Solvents like ethanol, CO2, or butane are used to extract cannabinoids and terpenes (the compounds responsible for aroma and effects) from the plant. This creates a crude extract that contains THC, CBD, fats, and other plant components.
- Winterization: This step removes unwanted plant fats, waxes, and lipids. The crude extract is mixed with ethanol and frozen, causing the fats to separate. After filtration, the extract is cleaner but still not pure enough.
- Decarboxylation: The extract is then heated to activate the THC by converting it from its inactive form (THCA) into delta-9 THC, the psychoactive compound that provides the “high.”
- Distillation: Finally, the extract is heated again in a vacuum to separate the different compounds based on their boiling points. This process removes remaining impurities, leaving behind highly concentrated delta-9 THC distillate.
The result is a potent, nearly pure THC product with minimal flavour or aroma, making it ideal for infusion into products like vapes, edibles, or tinctures.
